Holy Bible – New International Version

Since I can’t review or summarise a holy book I’ll share some stories.

Mom gave this to me in 2000 and I’ve read it gradually over 20 years. She had converted to Christianity back then because she found her calling in it. What some of us saw was that some angry wives got together to convert and start throwing away any other religious statues in their houses.

Mom was pretty addicted to the Christian channel and I would wait for her to fall asleep to change the channel but that is exactly when she would wake up and say that she was watching it… before falling asleep in her wheelchair again.

I remember taking her to her Sunday service either helping her up the stairs or carrying her with the help of Parag (Fish). Saturdays were my clubbing nights so I was pretty hungover when it came time to drop her for service. One of the converted wive once asked me if I had been ‘saved’ too. I didn’t have the patience for it so replied with a ‘I’m not a word document’. Mom and I would look at each other with a silent giggle as I walked away.

So yeah, apart from that I did start carrying that book or some kind of scripture whenever I travelled as my lucky charm. Back when I started reading it I used to go around Kenya with the Blue Sky filming crew and remember the book would knock me out after a few chapters. Most probably because of the small writing.
