Wheels Workshop with Rockingham Hyundai & Women on Wheels 21 Nov 2018

Facebook event link

Notes:
(Paras note: Please keep in mind lot of these I feel are just recommendations and don’t need to be followed just because they say so. Everybody has to make a buck somewhere.)

– Intro, PIZZA, house keeping and then we were divided into 5 groups so that each group would spend allocated time in each station and rotate.

– So the last time I looked under the hood the radiator took normal tap water. Now we’ve been told only special coolants can be used and only the ones bought from Hyundai for my Hyundai will be allowed as they’ll carry investigations if anything else was used and if so then my warranty can be affected.

– Different coolants don’t mix well so if you must use distilled water. If you do use water it’s best if the water is room temperature. If using cold water, keep the car running.

– There are 2 fuse boxes. One in the bonnet and one next to the steering wheel. You may even be lucky to find a fuse puller in the front one. The diagrams will tell you what fuse rating goes for what function. We were shown 3 types of fuses, 1 – brand new and working, 2 – blown, 3 – burnt.

– Difference between clean and dirty air filters.

– Pollen filter behind the glove box.

– Wipers have to be changed every 3 months even if there has been no rain.

– It’s best to check tyre pressure regularly as overinflation means less tyre surface on the road which means less road holding. Under inflated tyres will wear out on the sides and cause more fuel consumption so have a look on the inside of your drivers door to see exact tyre pressure. You can keep a tyre gauge in the car if needed.

– Always try to replace or fix a flat tyre/puncture as soon as possible.

– If driving with the space saver tyre do not exceed 80 kph. These tyres may be small but their pressure is about 60psi.

– Jumper cable connecting sequence. First red (+ve) on both batteries. Then black (-ve). These days you have to clamp on the earthing far away from the ECU (computer) which might be near the battery. Basically find a metal part under the hood that is far from electronics. Then start the car. Once ready, disconnect black (-ve) jump leads first.

How to Jump Start A Car

– Topping up oil means you have to pull out the dip stick, wipe it, redip it and see if it needs filling. Fill and make sure it’s below the full mark.

– Bottom of the car shown to us and all the components of how things work. Cooling components, gear, suspension, brake, steering.

– Some brake pads are designed so that they start squealing when they need to be changed.

– Activated charcoal is used is the muffler to filter out smoke and gasses from the exhaust pipe.

– We are shown how to change a tyre. Below video is dedicated to a certain feminist who still doesn’t know how to change a tyre ;oP

A Woman’s Guide To Changing A Tire

– Some tips: Make sure the tank is never quarter empty. Lock doors always. When experiencing road rage, never antagonise the person. Zero alcohol is best. Talking, using the phone and eating are not recommended and the last two I have just found out are illegal in some places. EATING!

– If you are in any kind of incident where you don’t feel safe, you don’t have to get out of your car. You can always write down your details and open the window enough to pass it through the crack.
