Notes:
– All batteries still need the grid so can’t totally disconnect from the power company.
– Nearly all solar installed in the past 5 years can have battery added.
– Batters have a daily cycle where they discharge. Some can do it twice and some can recharge from the grid
– Lot of the batteries are AC so you don’t need a hybrid inverter.
– They need to be installed in cool and dry locations. Indoors, wall or floor mounted, some work may need to be done on the meter and approved by western power.
– Went through some batteries and their stats.
– Solar has never been more affordable.
– Generous Government incentives are still available.
– Battery storage is still at “early adopters” stage.
– Solar PV Systems can always be upgraded to battery storage.
– Free energy assessments for residents and businesses.
– You won’t find a better investment than Solar for your home or your business.
– If buying see reviews, are they part of clean energy council, stay local, research/warranty, ROI.
The A part of the Q and A
– Battery doesn’t need to be near the inverter.
– Battery guarantee is usually 10 years. Life expectancy about 12 years. Manufacturers take back batteries but still not sure how to dispose of them.
– Wind power is noisy and awkward and didn’t really work that well. They can’t generate enough to power the home. So combining them is not practical.
– For rural Western Power may not agree to 5 kw and may only allow 3 kw but a way around it is to get 2 x 2.5.
– Lots of panels over 5-8 years are non compliant. Better off buying them on gumtree.

8) Why not use Supercapacitors? A. Batteries work better at this time, caps are rare and expensive devices that are very good at doing things not needed for storage systems typically.
