Self-Esteem – The School of Life
– Liking ourselves is crucial to our wellbeing.
– People you don’t have perfect bodies or anything love themselves so much. While some people with everything you could wish for still feel they need to achieve to ‘earn’ love and respect.
– 3 factors:
1. What your same sex parent did. Did you achieve more than them? Those who have outpaced them will have better luck.
2. What your peer group is up to. Are they doing more than you? Are people your age and grow up with you doing better than you?
3. The kind of love you receive in childhood. How many conditions did the love come with? What sort of affection did you receive in childhood? Unconditional love? Blessed ones will not have to do so much to get parental approval. Please see Toxic Parenting/Childhood Trauma for more.
– No amount of striving and goal-scoring will help if you didn’t get these.
– You have to come to terms with yourselves, understanding our past and what unresolved issues lie there.
– High self-esteem will be about psychology rather than what you achieve out there in the world.
