A Neverending Slow Dance

A Neverending Slow Dance
My name is Earth, hers is Moon. Since as far as I can remember, we’ve been going in circles like this. Don’t know when it started, hope it never ends. When I don’t see her I get to rest knowing that she’s still there. But when I see her, something happens to me.

At first she gives me a shy smile with her waxing crescent. After that her first quarter, her waxing gibbous and then her full moon. Her full moon gets the animals in me howling. She can see the rush she gives me. And like a tease she knows she shakes up my waters when I see her lit up in detail. Every crater from her humorum to her crisium. I tease her back with my clouds, she doesn’t know I’m copying bollywood songs when I hide behind them but it works. It’s time for her to go again. She’ll never show it but behind her waning crescent smile hides her sadness.

We want to be closer but that would be destructive to both of us. So we make the most of every dance. Having a stronger gravitational force I do get a kiss from a meteor now and then but she knows it’s natural. Recently I’ve found a way to send her part of me and decorate her with flags. I know she doesn’t like it, but she keeps if for me.

Sometimes I can’t figure her out, when I see her on my horizon she looks yellow-red and bigger than normal. Like she’s blushing so much she’s about to explode. But as she comes on top of me she shrinks and changes to a sharper blue. No matter where I go I feel like she’s a step ahead.

Whatever happens I know if ever I miss her, all I have to do is look out and find her there. A love story that never ends.
