Merde Actually by Stephen Clarke

Sequel to Life in the Merde. And even if you haven’t read the previous one this is just as amazing and you’ll be clued in on the history. There were so many times I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at some of the funniest descriptions, retorts and observations I’ve read.

Like the stories were not entertaining as they were. For some reason I feel Stephen was being extra descriptive in this one though. Like extra extra attention to detail… sometimes describing things so meticulously when it had nothing to do with the story. Not that I’m complaining… oh no, not at all. It’s a pretty quick read even though the book is pretty chunky.

I don’t know if it was the weight of the book or how engrossed I would be in the book but at the end of my bus ride when I’d straighten my reading arm… I would be in pain… like muscle strain pain. So the book was a good workout too huh?

Note: One observation I’ll never forget was when he describes his girlfriends mom’s buttocks as two ball men under some covers or something… hmmm guess I forgot :os I usually do the negative first but this is not really that negative anyway. Dude has so many affairs it made me think I was not seeing all these opportunities around me or something… why its not that bad is coz it’s made me wanna compete. I’ll leave it there. Oh and coz he’s in love it’s a bit soapy but there’s something for guys and girl in the book.

Not only does the book take your from country to beach to city to going back home and back again. It takes you through emotions of frustration, anger, love, desperation, victory and superstition. And it ended perfectly. Like imagine ski jumping… you zoom down the inrun… I though that’s where it would end but there’s there jump and you’re filled with rushes and doubts… will I land fine? Will I stumble? And well I’ll let you find out for yourself… just remember ski jumping when you get to the last chapter. Oh and then the Epilogue was the cherry on top… wish I could tell you but I’d be spoiling bits. Definitely worth reading. Big Viv once again for hooking me up.
